The Delhi High Court recently granted bail to a man accused of assaulting his wife inside the court premises while they were there for a hearing regarding a matrimonial dispute.
The alleged assault took place in January 2025 following an altercation between the couple inside the court complex.
The accused was arrested that same day after the police registered a case of attempted murder based on his wife’s complaint.
The matrimonial proceedings initiated by the wife were ultimately withdrawn.
Furthermore, during the hearing on the bail application, the wife informed Justice Mini Pushkarna that she no longer wished to pursue the criminal case against her husband.
The wife stated that she has begun visiting her husband’s family and hopes to resume living with him once he is released from prison.
“She has therefore expressed a desire to resume marital life amicably,” the court noted.
In light of these statements, the State indicated it had no objection to the defendant’s bail application.
Consequently, on September 23, the court ordered his release on bail, subject to certain conditions.
It also directed investigators to continue monitoring the situation and to conduct necessary inquiries should any further complaints arise.
The court stated: “The investigating officer should closely monitor developments and conduct an investigation in accordance with the law if any complaints are received.”
The defendant was represented by defense counsel Pawan Mehta, Kanav Bhatta, Lalit Kashyap, and Nitin Bhardwaj.
Public Prosecutor Shoaib Haider appeared on behalf of the State.
